Which rules must be observed in road traffic in Italy

Violations of the Italian Road Traffic Code (CDS), specifically related to heavy and oversized transport, can result in heavy fines or serious administrative penalties.

Article 10 of the CDS contains various paragraphs, whereby paragraphs 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24 and 25 refer to the fines that can be imposed on special transports in the event of violations of the conditions of the exemption authorisations.

PARAGRAPH 18 (ARTICLE10 CDS)

Fines between € 796.00 - € 3,212.00.

When carrying out special transports:
Without exceptional authorisation because never granted.

PARAGRAPH 19 (ARTICLE10 CDS)

Fines between € 159.00. - € 642.00.

  • Failure to observe the description, load and anchoring
  • Failure to observe the prescribed speeds
  • Failure to stop in poor day and night visibility.
  • Failure to comply with the regulation on the use of escort vehicles.
PARAGRAPH 20 (ARTICLE10 CDS)

Fines between € 42,00. - € 172,00.

This applies in cases where an authorisation is available but is not present in the lorry or cannot be found.
However, the journey can be continued as soon as the authorisation can be presented.
However, the fine must still be paid.
