WHEN IS AN AUTHORISATION NECESSARY?

In Italy, heavy transport, oversized transport or special transport is defined as special transport when motor vehicles and their loads exceed the following dimensions and weights specified in Art. 61 and 62 of the Italian Highway Code (Codice della Strada = CDS) and therefore require a special permit. Depending on the dimensions, different types of authorisation apply.

Length over 16.50 m Tractor unit and semi-trailer (articulated vehicle)
Width over 2.55 m (2.60 m for refrigerated trailers)
Height over 4.00 m
Total weight over 44.00 tonnes for vehicle combinations with 5 axles and over
